the economy's slow growth. the unemployment rate in michigan is over the national average and things look much worse in the detroit metro area. unemployment there is nearing 16%. kristen welker is live for us at the white house. kristen, the president right now on board air force one and is touching down soon. what can we expect to hear from him? >> white house officials say the president will talk about the importance of creating a strong middle class to this economic recovery. he'll also likely challenge democrats and republicans to get behind that big jobs plan that you just mentioned that he's going to roll out on thursday. we don't know specifically what's going to be in the plan, i can tell you a couple of things that have been under consideration including extending payroll tax breaks as well as investing in infrastructure, green energy projects and also providing tax breaks for companies who hire new employees. now the community today that will be listening to the president speak thousands of union workers will of course be listening very closely to his words today and again on thursda

hope he goes to michigan. i hope he comes back to ohio. he was in ohio yesterday, and he said this about the jobs bill. >> ohio, if you pass this bill, then right here in this state tens of thousands of construction workers will have a job again. pass this jobs bill, and there will be funding to save the jobs of up to 14,000 ohio teachers and cops and firefighters. there are schools all throughout ohio that need this kind of renovation. there's a bridge in cincinnati that connects ohio to kentucky that needs this kind of renovation. there are construction projects like these all across the country just waiting to get started and there are millions of unemployed construction workers looking for a job. so my question to congress is, what on earth are we waiting for? >> and of course a gallup poll out today showing 45% of americans want their congressional member to vote for the american jobs act. only 32% want them to vote against it. so, once again, the people aren't being listened to by the republicans. now, in the state of ohio, boots on the ground here, it it's a radical age

million americans are jobless. an economic disaster for major swaths of the country. in michigan, frirngs unemployment is at more than 11% right now. joining me now, the former governor of michigan. and co-author of a governor's story. the fight for jobs. you were governor from 2002 to 2010. your state seeing what? 14% unemployment at its worts worst. you've come now. now at 11%, a three-point drop. you write a jobs here. what specific solution for michigan would you say could be translated across the country here? >> we tried everything that the supply siders would want. we cut taxes, we cut government. we were the in the country relative to size. what did work was the ability to team with the businesses, partnering in investment in key priorities. for example, obviously the investment in the intervention by the obama administration in the auto industry was key. they also provided us with the ability to create new sectors. creating a lithium ion batteries. >> we are now one of the leaders in the world. >> but they're flethreatening t pay for the emergency disasters. if you cut that kind

their policies have a devastating impact on real people across the country. in michigan, governor rick snyder signed the law that puts a four-year lifetime limit on welfare. that means next month, nearly 41,000 michigan residents will stop getting welfare aid including nearly 30,000 children. thousands of innocent impoverished kids, abandoned by the state. in arizona, a new republican law punishes the families of prison inmates. to help deal with the state's deficit, the state has begun charge is $25 to visit someone in prison. it's called a quote, background check fee. but actually goes for maintenance and repairs. and in wisconsin, governor scott walker's budget cuts means some kids are going without. one school district is so worried about losing state funding, that has stopped giving milk to elementary school kids during snack time. these are the real government of gop priorities. and the people paying for them are the ones who can least afford them. we're going to keep calling republicans out for this injustice and we would like your help in doing it. come to our facebook page. and like
